During the 2016 presidential campaign, Khizr Khan emerged from the democratic platform as a proponent of equality for all American groups.
President Biden proposed Khizr Khan for the position of commissioner of the US Commission on International Religious Freedom last year in appreciation of his contributions to the rule of law and religious freedom.
The Presidential Medal of Freedom is the highest civilian honor bestowed on Americans. Recipients must have made significant contributions to social harmony, American ideals, and national security.
Khizr Khan, who is he?
The Constitution Literacy and National Unity Center was founded by Gold Star parent and activist Khizr Khan.
He became famous after publicly challenging the then-US president in 2016 over his understanding of the US commission, which was his son. Captain Humayun Khan of the US Army was killed in Iraq in 2004.
Khizr Khan was born and raised in Lahore, where he attended the Punjab University to study law.
He afterwards relocated permanently to America, bringing his small family with him. He first attended Harvard Law School to pursue his education.
